What I do

I see the potential in no longer wanted garments. Wool with moth holes and silk and velvet with worn places still have corners of beautiful fabric waiting to be sewn into something that will be loved again. Yard sales, thrift stores, and great friends are my main source for creative supplies. I'm glad to see that upcycling is becoming more mainstream now and not something (as was in my Mother's and Grandmother's day) to apologize for.

In Stitches

Some resent doodles. I like to use needle and thread instead of pen and ink. Somehow it works for me.
Hot chocolate and cupcakes. These are going to be finished as Christmas ornaments.
Some doodles put together. I'm pleased with the way this art quilt is going.

Quiltercise

Who said quilting is a sedentary activity? Here is my routine:
1. squat on the floor and mark the next piece of fabric.
2. stand up, walk to sewing machine, sit down and sew next seam
 3. stand up and press sewn seam
4. kneel on floor and design next piece

5. start all over again
6.repeat until your back gives out or the job is finished

New Bags

I was in need of a new purse. I made this pattern and REALLY like it. Even the male members of my household were impressed.
The lining fabric has dragonflies on it that were just the right size to cover these buttons and use for embellishment. Too cool. I had enough of the bits of fabric to make 2 more bags to sell.
Next bag I make I want to use part of this plaid wool skirt and incorporate the neat buckle somehow. First, though, I have to make cupcakes and hot chocolate.

Fuzzy Pears

How exciting! The other day I found this pile of zippers at a rummage sale. I've been seeing things embellished with strips of zipper teeth and have thought of a few things to try, so, here is my opportunity. Before I do that, though, I had an idea for the zipper pull.
Fuzzy pears. I came across some light green velvet. It looks like it was leftover from upholstering something. Anyway, it makes lovely fat pears. Now to the zipper pull....this is what I used it for...

It makes a great stem/finding to put a ornament hook in.

William's Birthday

I have several men in my life, but, the cutest by far is my grandson. He turned 1 the other day. Where has the time gone?
I made a fabric ball for him. Because he is so tactile I made each slice with a different fabric texture. He seemed to be intrigued.

Fabric Autumn

Silk, velvet and felted wool leaves scattered across a felted wool background. I did reverse applique for some of the leaves and appliqued others on top. Because I use previously used wool I found it difficult to find a long piece of moth hole free fabric. My solution was to make smaller squares that I spaced apart and joined with leaves. It worked quite well. I like the idea well enough to make some more table toppers this way.

The fabric I used for the back was a piece of vintage fabric given to me that I have treasured waiting for just the right project.

I really like this bag. The pattern I used was in Japanese so it took me awhile to figure out but now that I have this one done the next one shouldn't take so long.
We had snow the other day which has inspired me to get out the whites and blues from my fabric stash.
